With all of the options out there for beauty products these days, choosing one can be overwhelming (not to mention, dangerous for your wallet). That’s why sometimes you just have to go back to the basics–we’re talking using household items that have been tried-and-true for generations. We now have tons of DIY recipes at our fingertips to help cleanse, heal, and illuminate skin, and thankfully, we’ve gathered our favorites for you here. Best of all? Most of these recipes only use 1-3 ingredients! Yes, please!

Dry Skin // Honey + Yogurt Mask
Greek yogurt has lactic acid, a natural exfoliant also contains moisturizing fats that soothe skin. Mix one tablespoon of honey with two tablespoons of full-fat greek yogurt and apply to face for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with warm water.

Dull, Fatigued Skin // Cucumber, Coconut Milk, Banana, + Brown Sugar Mask
This revitalizing mask exfoliates with brown sugar, moisturizes with banana, improves skin elasticity with coconut milk, and calms with cucumber. Puree one-half of a ripe banana, one-half of a peeled cucumber, one-fourth of a cup of coconut milk, and a tablespoon of brown sugar. Immediately apply to face and let soak in for 15-20 minutes before rinsing.

Oily Skin // Avocado, Egg White, + Lemon Mask
Lemon is a natural astringent, which makes this mask ideal for cutting through oil and debris. Avocado adds moisture and keeps skin supple. In a medium bowl, beat one egg white until it’s foamy. Mash up one-half of an avocado and add to bowl. Finally, add one teaspoon of freshly-squeezed lemon juice to the bowl and blend. Apply to face for 10 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

Acne-Prone Skin // Oatmeal, Lemon, + Almond Mask
Oatmeal contains special amino acids that help revive skin, while almonds are a perfectly gentle exfoliant. Grind one tablespoon of oatmeal into powder-form using a food processor and set aside in a medium bowl. Next, grind one-third cup of almonds to a powder and add to bowl. Lastly, add one teaspoon of freshly-squeezed lemon juice. Mix together while adding a few drops of purified warm water, until it becomes a paste. Slather onto face and let soak into skin for 15 minutes.

Red, Irritated Skin // Cucumber, Turmeric, + Oatmeal Mask
Cucumbers help reducing redness and puffiness in skin, while turmeric soothes any irritations and scars. Throw one large cucumber (chopped), one-half teaspoon of turmeric, and one cup of oatmeal into a blender until pureed. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 20-25 minutes. You can store any leftovers for a week of use.
