If you guys know anything about me, you know that I have a deep, real, long-lasting love for coffee. However, coffee doesn’t exactly love all of us back. Many of us struggle with things like stomach pain, anxiety, allergies, acid reflux, migraines, and heavy fatigue, just to name a few, and whether you want to believe it or not, the culprit could be coming from your morning cup. I’ve had doctors for 10 years (that’s about how long I’ve been dealing with food sensitivities with frequent ER trips because my stomach won’t stop swelling) telling me to cut out coffee, but I just didn’t want to hear it and figured it was something else.
I’ve finally come to the realization that I’m never going to feel better if I don’t try. I did some testing recently with Everlywell.com, which revealed that I’m sensitive to the best foods ever—coffee, bananas, avocado, cinnamon, chia seeds, gluten, corn, grapefruit, and the list goes on—but obviously the first 3 items hit me the hardest (emotionally). Coffee is my drug, bananas are my favorite fruit and morning ritual, and avocados, well what AREN’T they great on/with? So anyway, I’ve been doing some research on alternatives for my AM coffee—which I’m not quitting cold turkey, but more so backing away from it very, very slowly—and I’ve found some pretty delicious recipes ranging from black tea lattes to completely caffeine free mylks and smoothies. I meet so many friends who are suffering from some of the same issues, so thought I’d gather them here. Take a peek and let me know which one’s your favorite.
