It’s that time of the year when skin gets duller, drier, and straight up achey. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a true LUSH Cosmetics fanatic, but do you know why? LUSH stands alone in the product world, with their eco-friendly, wonder-working, amazing-smelling products. Plus, they fight against animal testing. What’s not to love? LUSH has specific products made for healing winter skin and hair. So what are they?
The first thing I usually notice when my skin is getting dry, is rough hands. Handy Gurugu Hand Cream is great because it’s a rich, heavy-duty lotion made from four different types of butters (shea, cashew, almond, and pumpkin seed) and soothing essential oils. It smells clean, natural, and soft, unlike a lot of those other perfume-heavy lotions on the market. It’s flawless. It also takes just one or two applications to get hands back into shape.
Next is my face. After washing at night, sometimes it starts to feel tight and uncomfortable. I use Celestial Facial Moisturizer which is a creamy, cocoa butter formula that’s gentle on sensitive skin. They use vanilla water, almond milk, and dove orchid extra to help skin retain moisture and fight redness or irritation. I love the scent–it’s so good, in fact, that my boyfriend tried to taste it! He’ll stick to smelling it from now on…
For the rest of my body, I love moisturizing with Dream Cream Body Lotion. It was my first ever Lush item, and I’ve been hooked ever since. This lotion was made to soothe skin, with is blend of lavender, chamomile, olive oil, cocoa butter, and oat milk. The scent is so wonderful and if you struggle with eczema, keratosis poralis, or other skin irritation, this lotion is a miracle worker.
Ever had straw-like, dry hair? Whether it’s from styling products, sun, bleach, or winter, it happens to everyone. I use Rehab Shampoo that contains a blend of citrus juices, olive oil, and jojoba oil to restore flexability and strength to hair. Personally it makes my hair FULL and beautiful. I love the scent, it’s fresh and peppermint-y with a hint of tropical juices. I follow up with a heavy-conditioner called Retread. It’s a super-smoothing formula made from cantalope, yogurt, soy milk, seaweed, avocado, and olive oil that simply smells like healing in a jar. I can’t describe it any other way besides “fresh + herbal.” My hair is noticiably boucier and softer after using this conditioner–and not in an oily way like some conditioners.
Lastly, when you’re trying to heal dry skin, sometimes you need to take more steps than just applying lotion. Scrubs can help get down to the surface and remove dead skin cells, bringing a new, healthy layer of skin to the top. I adore Aqua Mirabilis Body Butter for it’s ability to exfoliate skin in a deep, yet, gentle way with teeny bits of almonds. It also contains almond butter, which provides instant moisture to exfoliated skin, making it a scrub and lotion, all-in-one!
